Learning outcomes

The student should be able to: - Understand the different stages of a social science research process - Building a research question - Selecting relevant scientific sources to answer a research question - Write a synthesis of several scientific papers

Objectives

-Distinguish between the different phases of a social science 'research' process -Understand the importance of a literature review and be able to conduct a literature search on a topic -Identify the different uses of literature in scientific research -To understand the approach of an author and to take a critical distance from it.

Content

The content of the course is delivered in 5 sessions, with the following topics covered: Session 1: -Introduction to epistemology -Distinguishing the stages of research -Construction of a research object Session 2: -Back to the research question -Introduction to documentary research Session 3: -Continuation of the literature search, in the computer pool -Criteria for developing a literature search and justification of choices Session 4: -Introduction to reading scientific texts -Writing a literature review Session 5: -More on epistemology -A look back at the work

Evaluations

Three individual works: 1.MRSS1 WORK INSTRUCTIONS : -Write your research question based on the reading of the book + its justification (1 page). 2. WORKING INSTRUCTIONS MRSS2 (3 pages) : -Instructions for the work: Make a list of 5 bibliographical references in relation to your research question and justify your choice. 3. WORKING INSTRUCTIONS MRSS3 (3 pages) : -Write, individually, a synthesis of three scientific articles (among the 5 selected) in reference to your research question. (Use the methodological sheet on writing a synthesis given in the session)
