  • 30h
  • 1st quarter
Language of instruction: German / Deutsch

Learning outcomes

The aim of this course is to bring students to an A2/B1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Students will gradually become familiar with the basic structures and grammar of German as required for communicative purposes according to the topics, texts and language behaviours covered. The course aims at acquiring a basic vocabulary sufficient to enable students to read non-specialised press texts and to express themselves coherently in everyday situations of a student wishing to study in a German-speaking country or to integrate in the professional world. It aims to prepare the student to present a recognised certificate such as the Goethe-/ÖSD-Zertifikat A1, and the Goethe-Zertifikat A2 or the Goethe-/ÖSD-Zertifikat B1.

Objectives

Achieving an A2 / B1 level which gives the student the possibility to present a recognised certificate such as the Goethe- /ÖSD-Zertifikat A1, and the Goethe-Zertifikat A2 or the Goethe-/ÖSD-Zertifikat B1

Content

The course has several aspects: a theoretical introduction to the rules of basic grammar, sentence structures and word composition / acquisition of basic vocabulary useful for everyday situations / introduction to reading techniques to optimise the reading of a non-specialised press article. This course mainly targets reading and listening comprehension skills. It offers an introduction to oral expression with and without interaction and to written expression in the fields and themes covered.

Teaching methods

The course is organised on the basis of two hours per week in a hybrid system (face-to-face and distance learning). The practical organisation of the sessions will be communicated to the students at the beginning of the course by the teacher. The concepts taught will be regularly put into practice by the students, who are expected to participate actively in the course. Emphasis is placed on active student participation and empowerment in the learning process. Students will be asked to make choices about topics and methods in order to complete a portfolio that will allow them to self-assess and value any additional activities to improve their skills. Important: Particular attention will be paid to the distribution between face-to-face hours and credits allocated to the German course. A certain number of hours/credits will therefore be spent face-to-face with the teacher, the rest of the hours/credits will be spent at a distance for personal work.
