Objectives

At the end of this course, the students must be able to read, understand, synthesize and criticize peer-reviewed scientific articles.

Content

Analysis of several mechanisms responsible for the biogenesis of cellular organelles and for the intracellular transport of proteins, lipids, organelles and pathogens in normal and pathological conditions.

Invited orators :  C. Blouin, C. Delevoye, S. Miserey-Lenkei from the Institut Curie in Paris, F. Baschieri from the Institut Gustave Roussy in Paris, A. Forrester (FNRS) and N. Zanin from UNamur and P. Zimmermann from KULeuven.

Table of contents

  • Introduction on intracellular transport machinery in health and disease (I. Hamer).
  • Intracellular transport of the matriciel metalloproteinase MT1-MMP and cell cancer invasion (I. Hamer)
  • Formation and fonction of recycling endosomes (C. Delevoye, Institut Curie, Paris)
  • Role of non-conventional endocytosis on cancer cell properties (H-F. Renard)
  • Formation of flat and stable structures, coated with clathrin and implicated in the control of cellular mechanotransduction (F. Baschieri, Institut Gustave Roussy, Paris)
  • Importance of the smallGTPase Rab6 in protein secretion from the Golgi apparatus to the plasma membrane (S. Miserey-Lenkei, Institut Curie, Paris).
  • Role of caveolae in the mechanosensing of muscular cells (C. Blouin, Institut Curie, Paris)
  • Role of the retromer complex in inflammatory diseases (N. Zanin, UNamur)
  • Functional dissection of the retrograde Shiga toxin trafficking inhibitor Retro-2 (A. Forrester, in English, Chercheuse qualifiée FNRS, UNamur)
  • Biogenesis and capture of Extracellular vesicles in physiopathology (P. Zimmermann, KULeuven) (to be confirmed)

Teaching methods

This course is a module wherein the lessons are given by the co-titulars and by international researchers. They rely on the presentation and the discussion on a particular subject from experimental results.
