Learning outcomes

Understand the main concepts of evolutionary theory from historical aspects to molecular mechanisms. To be able to discuss and argue in groups about evolutionary issues

Objectives

Every biologist must be able to understand the mechanisms of the evolution of species, from an organismic and molecular point of view. This course aims to provide the keys to understanding the modern issues related to the theory of evolution.

Content

Partim Frédéric Silvestre: - evolution in 4 dimensions - realized inheritance - epigenetic inheritance Partim Karine Van Doninck: - evolution of genomes - adaptation and evolution of reproduction patterns - sexual selection and sex determinism

Teaching methods

- ex cathedra course based on power-point presentations available on webcampus and/or powerpoint with voice recording on webcampus - reading of articles and/or book chapters and discussion in class - online discussion via webcampus of selected articles

Evaluations

Oral presentation of one (or more) article(s), by groups of two students (or alone), before the whole group (in January).
