Learning outcomes

1. To acquire a broad general and interdisciplinary culture by opening up to other disciplines and understanding the links between them and history 4. Develop specialised knowledge in areas of the historical discipline and understand the issues of the discipline

Objectives

At a time when the reform of the State is changing the institutional landscape of Belgium, it is more important than ever to understand the evolution of our political structures by placing them in their historical context. This is precisely the purpose of this course, which covers the end of the Ancien Régime, as well as the 19th and 20th centuries.

Content

The course consists of two parts: 1. The construction of the Belgian state before 1831 2. The evolution of the Belgian State since 1831 2.1. The democratisation process 2.2. The process of federalisation

WRITTEN exam 1. At least one question concerns the analysis of a document seen in the course; 2. In the lecture hall. Written and figurative documents are analysed during the course; 4. 4. Correction by the teacher, with the help of an assistant. CRITERIA: 1. ability of the student to deal with a problem in its complexity, with precision (including chronology, terminology) and rigour; 2. ability of the student to trace the different stages of an evolution, without confusing the periods; 3. clarity and coherence of the presentation (the answer must be well structured). 4. Ability to analyse a historical document in depth and to replace it in its context.
