Learning outcomes

Tutoring : The student learns from his peers through his role as a teacher-tutor during practical sessions, tutorials or team-based learning. They will have acquired this competence in relation to a specific subject which they have already followed or validated. They will be able to present and explain in a didactic and precise manner. Seminars : The student benefits from an education that lasts for the 2nd and 3rd baccalaureate during which he/she attends seminars given by lecturers specialised in different fields that are related to veterinary medicine. The student will become acquainted with the many facets of the veterinary profession and will learn to take a critical attitude through debates and discussions with the lecturers.

Objectives

Tutoring : To be able to teach peers. Learn to communicate in an understandable and didactic way, using an appropriate scientific vocabulary. Seminars : The student will learn about the many facets of the veterinary profession and will learn to take a critical attitude through debates and discussions with the lecturers.

Content

Tutoring : The student will have participated in the equivalent of 40 to 45 hours of practical or directed activities (face to face with students). He/she will have prepared his/her performance by studying his/her subject and will have received the necessary instructions from the teacher or assistant in charge of the organisation of the didactic activity. Seminars : This course is given simultaneously to 2nd and 3rd year baccalaureate students. As students follow this course for two consecutive years, they have the opportunity to complete a full cycle. The seminars are given by external lecturers and are followed by a debate. The debate is prepared by a team of students in the second year of the seminar cycle on the basis of documents provided by the lecturer; they are supervised by one of the teachers who moderates the debate. The topics covered are ethics, ethology, sociology, human-animal relations, management, psychology and professional issues. After each seminar, the student writes a personal reflection sheet on the impact of each seminar on his or her knowledge and professional projects.

Teaching methods

Tutoring : In-depth study of the subject in order to be able to teach it during the practical sessions. Active participation in the practical and practical work to play the role of tutor/teacher. Seminars : The student attends the lectures, and is invited to take an active part in the ensuing debate. In the second year of the seminar cycle, in groups and with the help of one of the course instructors, the student will be responsible for preparing and moderating the debate of one of the lectures. After each lecture, the student writes a personal report. At the end of the seminar cycle, the student will have a file, consisting of at least the personal reports and, for each of them, of at least one document deemed necessary or interesting.

Evaluations

The assessment of each of the two learning activities (LA) of the course (seminars taken over two years AND elective courses: tutoring) takes place only once per academic year. The Seminars SA is assessed at the end of the first semester. There is no second session for this SA. It is only assessed during the January assessment period. Each student is given a topic of veterinary interest on which he/she is expected to do some personal reflection in order to be able to make a presentation and argument, in the presence of fellow students and a supervisor, based on the lectures given, related readings and personal experience. The student will be expected to 'Reflect, Position and Argue' in relation to the topics covered in the lectures. The Elective: Tutorial SA is assessed according to the tutorial calendar, either at the end of the 1st or 2nd term. The student may only register for assessment in one period. There is no second session. The assessment is carried out by the teacher or assistant in charge of the organisation of the learning activity. The final assessment (mark out of 20) is the sum of the 2 parts, if and only if each part is passed with a mark above 9/20.
