Course 2024-2025

Experimental optics of surfaces and nanostructures [SPHYM124]

  • 3 credits
  • 22h
  • 1st quarter
Language of instruction: French / Français

Learning outcomes

Knowledge of conventional and advanced optical methods for studying surfaces and nanostructures.

Objectives

The objective of the course is to give an overview of the conventional and advanced optical techniques that can be used to characterise the physico-chemical properties of 2D surfaces and 3D nanostructures. The fundamental principles of each technique will be presented, in order to highlight the characteristics, potentialities, limitations and complementarities of these optical spectroscopies. Applications, particularly related to molecular and biological films, will also be presented.

Content

This course will present the most frequently used conventional optical spectroscopies, as well as advanced optical techniques, to study the properties of surfaces, nanostructures and molecular films.
