Course 2024-2025

Research project [SPHYM122]

  • 9 credits
  • quarter
Language of instruction: French / Français

Learning outcomes

The research project consists in offering the student an initiation to scientific research of the academic type in one of the units of the physics department of the University of Namur. At the end of the course, the student will be able to undertake and finalise a scientific work as part of his or her dissertation, and will also have acquired the skills to write and present it orally.

Objectives

The aim is to equip the student with the knowledge and skills required to carry out the research activity linked to the production of the final dissertation in the Master 2 programme. This research work will integrate the knowledge and skills developed in the Scientific Communication course. Access to the teaching unit SPHYM122 will be assessed by the project promoter on the basis of the relevant course marks in relation to the project topic. In addition, the successful completion of the teaching units SPHYB207 (Practical work in general physics), SPHYB220 (Personal work in the laboratory) and SPHYB315 (Practical work in general physics) is essential for enrolment in the teaching unit SPHYM122. Finally, for a project in the specialised subject "Physics and Data", the successful completion of the teaching units SPHYB107 (Computational and programming methods in physics) and SPHYB208 (Programming) is also essential.

Content

The starting point for this research will be a problem posed by a teacher, which may be extended by a thesis to be undertaken in M2.

Teaching methods

This course, intended for first year students of the Master in Physical Sciences, mobilises several teaching methodologies: expositive but also participative (during lectures and seminars).

Evaluations
