Learning outcomes

To acquire elementary knowledge in mechanics of continuous media and solve simple problems of elasticity and fluid mechanics.

Content

1)Elasticity Strain and stress tensors, free enregy of deformation, Hooke law, simple examples of strain states, elastic constantes of crystals, equations of equilibrium of isotropic body, resolution of a few classical problems (pressurized cavity, Boussinesq problem, Hertz problem), torsion of a rod, bending of a beam, deformation of rod, buckling of a compressed beam, deformation of a thin plate, elastic waves in isotropic media, elastic waves in a crystal, Rayleigh waves, bending waves in rods and plates. 2) Fluids dynamics Continuity equation, Euler equation, hydrostatics, Bernoulli equation, energy flux, momentum flux, conservation of circulation, potential flow, sound, Navier-Stokes equations, Poiseuille flow, Reynolds numbers and other dimensionless numbers, Stokes formula.
