  • 3 credits
  • 22h
  • 1st quarter
Language of instruction: English

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will be able to understand several molecular mechanisms sustaining adaptive processes to specific environments in free-living, mutualistic, parasitic and commensal bacteria.

Objectives

The objective of this course is to be able to analyze, criticize and present papers related to molecular microbiology and to reconcile the information obtained from these papers with the concepts addressed by the Professor and the invited speakers.

Content

The content of this course will be related to the major bacterial lifestyles and the underlying molecular mechanisms. One part of the content will depend on the research topic of the invited speakers and may thus vary from year to year.

Teaching methods

Introductory lectures by the Professor on bacterial lifestyles will alternate with seminars by invited speakers and scientific paper analyses and presentation by the students.

Evaluations

The students will be evaluated on the basis of:

  • Paper analyses and presentation during the semester (continuous evaluation) (40%)
  • An oral exam consisting in a paper presentation (compulsory topic) and in questions on the content of the course (60%)
