Sedimentary rock mapping course [SGOLB219]

Objectives

Upon completion of the Teaching Unit, students will be able to describe the rocks of a region dominated by sedimentary terrains, by producing a geological map and report.

Content

Six days in the field with two supervisors:

  • a one-day field training (which can take place on Saturday)
  • Five consecutive days of fieldwork in the Molignée valley (replaces one week of courses, usually in April)

Cartographie des roches sédimentaires [SGOLB218]

Teaching methods

Individual fieldwork (with on-site supervision)

Evaluations

The final grade is determined based on the following criteria :

  • quality of the final report and accompanying geological map, cross-section and log (due a few weeks after the end of the fieldwork)
  • conduct and attention to detail in the field
  • quality of the field notes (due at the end of the fieldwork)

The field notebook will be transcribed by the students after each day and the original field notes will be handed in at the end of the fieldwork.
