Course 2024-2025

Practical work in inorganic chemistry [SCHIB315]

  • 4 credits
  • 0h+60h
  • 2nd quarter
Language of instruction: French / Français
Teacher: Su Bao Lian

Learning outcomes

The discovery of the power of inorganic chemistry in the synthesis of inorganic compounds, especially in the synthesis of three-dimensional structures. The illustration of the effect of different ligands on the colour and thus the absorption spectra of several Chromium (III) complexes. Finally, the separation of enantiomeric coordination complexes.

Content

The first session aims to familiarise you with coordination compounds, their synthesis and their study by spectroscopies. The second session demonstrates that transition metal complexes can exist as enantiomers in the same way as molecules found in Organic Chemistry. In this session you will prepare a racemic mixture of two enantiomers of Cobalt (III) complexes and be introduced to racemic resolution which allows for their separation. The third session will be devoted to the synthesis and characterisation of open inorganic crystal structures, zeolites. You will discover the power of Inorganic Chemistry in creating a three-dimensional framework.

Co-requisites

Chimie physique : spectroscopie [SCHIB301]

Teaching methods

Through three different manipulations, the students will directly practice the subject of inorganic chemistry.
