Learning outcomes
The main objective of the dissertation is to teach the student how to be a researcher. More precisely, the student will have to develop an experimental and personal research involving: The student will have to develop a personal experimental research involving: - a mastery of recent scientific literature - the conception of an experimental approach and its implementation - the correct interpretation of experimental results, taking into account previous results - the synthetic and organised presentation of his/her bibliographical and experimental research.
Content
Each student individually chooses a dissertation topic from among the many proposed by the different research teams in cellular and molecular biology and biochemistry at UNamur. Each thesis is therefore unique, but all of them include a bibliographical analysis of the subject and an experimental part.

Each student is integrated into a research team to carry out their thesis. They are guided in their experimental learning by a tutor (doctoral student or researcher), participate in team meetings and meet regularly with their promoter to assess the progress of their work. They are also guided by the research team during the stages of writing and summarising their work.
Evaluations
The assessment is based on a written document of maximum 60 pages and an oral presentation of the work. Both forms of synthesis can be done in French or in English, at the student's discretion. The written document consists of several parts (cfr vade mecum dissertation). The oral presentation, of 15 minutes maximum, is followed by a question and answer session in interaction with the 4 members of the jury. A grid containing the criteria according to which the members of the jury evaluating the oral will evaluate the written document is provided.
