Learning outcomes

To describe in details a major metabolic disease (Obesity and Insulin Resitance)

To understand the complexity of metabolic diseases, the fact that is mutltifactorial, the responses and contribution of various tissues/organs...as well as microflora

To cover major modern technologies ("omics") and their contribution in the understanding of the metabolic diseases.

Objectives

Analyse different aspects of an important metabolic question related to insulin resistance, obesity and associated diseases. 

Describe and analyze the different roles palyed by many organs.

Characterize the different levels of analysis and different angles/aspects (epigentics, microbiome,...).

Review the techniques used in the studies devoted to study metabolism.

Physiopathology of cardiac metabolism Metabolic Syndrome Cell Signalling and AMPK in the metabolism

Nutritional regulation of the gut microbiota: impact on gut peptides and inflammatory disorders in the context of obesity and type 2 diabetes

Gene expression and transcriptomics of pancreatic islets

Therapeutic approaches to treat obesity

Malnutrition and development

Sirtuins and metabolic adaptations


Teaching methods

Courses (2h) based on invited speakers and experts for various domains

Evaluations

Writing of a report that develops the input of "omics" in the understanding of metabolic diseases
