Learning outcomes

The main objective of the Master thesis is to make a bibliographic synthesis of a given biological question with the aim of preparing the student for a research career. More precisely, the student will have to develop a personal approach involving : - a mastery of recent scientific literature - the conception of an experimental approach - the correct interpretation of experimental results - the synthetic and organised presentation of his/her bibliographical research and an experimental plan.

Content

Each student individually chooses a thesis topic from among those proposed in agreement with the heads of the different research teams in cellular and molecular biology and biochemistry at UNamur.

Teaching methods

The student is integrated into a research team to carry out his/her thesis. They are introduced by a tutor (doctoral student or researcher) to the experimental context of the biological question of their work, participate in team meetings and meet regularly with their promoter to assess the progress of their bibliographic work. They are also guided by the research team during the stages of writing and summarising their work.

Evaluations

The assessment is based on a written document of maximum 30 pages and an oral presentation of the work. The oral presentation, of 15 minutes maximum, is followed by a question and answer session in interaction with the 3 members of the jury. The written document, the oral presentation and the question and answer session will be in english.
