Integrated practical work [MPHAM120]

Learning outcomes

At the end of the integrated practical work, the student will be able to analyse PCR results and distinguish between positive and negative results. They will be able to use an HPLC and analyse the results. Finally, the student will be able to write validation reports based on official guidelines.

Objectives

In addition to using standard laboratory equipment and glassware, the student will be able to use PCR methods. The student will understand the principle of chromatographic separation and should be able to use an HPLC coupled to a detector (DAD) based on a previously provided user guide. Finally, the student should be able to find the essential information online to enable him/her to write a correct validation file.

Content

The integrated practical work will consist of 3 sessions of practical work and inter-active seminars.


Teaching methods

The laboratory session will start with an entry question. This will be followed by a brief explanation of the day's material by the assistant, the performance of the lab and the writing of the lab report.

Evaluations

The breakdown between continuous assessment (entrance exam and reports) and the written exam will be found in the practical training syllabus. As the practical sessions are compulsory, any unjustified absence will result in a 0 in the entrance examination and the report.
