Pharmacogenetics and personalised medicine [MPHAM113]

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will be able to understand the role of pharmacogenetics/genomics in the interindividual variability of the response (therapeutic or toxic) to drugs. The student will also be familiar with the terminology, the necessary analyses and the clinical applications

Objectives

The objective of this course is to provide the student with the necessary notions to understand pharmacogenetics and its implication in the choice and personalisation of therapeutic options.

Content

After a general introduction and description of applied molecular genetics, the next three chapters will focus on the applications of pharmacogenetics to pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and personalised medicine.


Teaching methods

The student will be provided with full course notes. The slides presented in the oral course will also be available on webcampus. Reference books will be made available to students.

Evaluations

Written examination in the form of short open-ended questions (SOQs) and/or MCQs.
