Objectives

The objective of the Introduction to Pharmaceutical Sciences course is to teach first year pharmacy students some basic notions of the profession of pharmacist, to provide basic information on the drug, on the pharmacy and on the multiple facets of the role of the pharmacist within the medical world and society.

Content

In order to meet this objective, experience and many conversations with students have taught us that future contacts with the professional world of pharmacy are more effective when students are somewhat prepared for them. Thus, the need to include in the course curriculum an introduction to the realities of the pharmaceutical world became apparent. The objective of the Introductory Pharmaceutical Sciences course is to teach students basic concepts on the main lines of the following three questions: What is a medicine? What is the role of the pharmacist in the world of health and in society? What are the main professional orientations of the pharmacist? Several pharmacists practising different aspects of the profession will inform the student about the structure and the course of their professional activity

Teaching methods

The lecture is given by means of a projection of photos, texts and diagrams, as well as by using the blackboard. The student has a complete syllabus of about 150 pages. He/she also has access to all the projected slides which are available on the Webcampus platform.
