Internship [MMEDB339]

Learning outcomes

The internship is organised during the month of June. In order to get the full benefit of this internship, the student must be fully available at this time (which means no exams to present in the residual session); in addition, he/she must master the notions of semiology, cardiovascular pathology, pneumology, clinical pharmacology and medical psychology courses, among others. The internship is only available to students at the end of their cycle. A student is at the end of the cycle when his or her EAP includes the last teaching units (TUs) for which he or she must acquire credits in order to obtain the academic degree.

Objectives

This tutorial allows the student to be in direct and personal contact with a general practitioner, his tutor, and to observe, in the most concrete and realistic way possible, the practice of general medicine, in order to : • to assess the way in which theoretical knowledge is put into practice; • understand the concrete aspects of the doctor-patient relationship; • putting professional secrecy into practice ; • to reflect on their future personal medical practice.

During this tutorial, the student should be able to : Communication • Establishing basic contact with the patient • Demonstrate listening and understanding • Adopt an appropriate and respectful attitude Organisation • Respect the instructions given by the tutor • Comply with the operating procedures of the tutoring location and safety requirements • Respect confidentiality rules and the professional • Identify the different roles of the GP and the limitations of the profession Practical and scientific aspects • Carry out tasks that are feasible at their level of competence • Search for relevant information to complement one's observation
