Objectives

Content

The course offers various activities aimed at actively participating in a conversation or debate in a small group and presenting a short oral presentation. There are also activities to improve comprehension of specialised language and listening comprehension.

Teaching methods

The first semester will be reserved for building confidence and developing communication skills in interaction. Before each session, the student will be asked to prepare a section of the material which will serve as a basis for supervised oral expression. Oral activities will be carried out in small groups under the supervision of the teacher.

The second semester will be devoted to structured oral presentations. After theoretical coaching on presentation issues and techniques, each student will have to present his or her own paper on a topic preferably related to his or her field of specialisation.

Evaluations

• written exam in January session = 40% (closed book, on Q1 material = Talk Sense and Oxford Practice Grammar/English Grammar in Use)

• June oral exam = 25%.

• compulsory oral presentation in the second semester + summary = 35%.
