Course 2024-2025

Génie génétique et éléments de génomique [MBIOB215]

  • 3 credits
  • 22.5h
  • 2nd quarter
Language of instruction: French / Français

Learning outcomes

Notions of molecular genetics, for students at the second year of pharmacy, having acquired notions of organic Chemistry and Biology.

Objectives

Provide the basic principles of genetic engineering and genomics, to allow the future pharmacists to understand the new therapeutic approaches resulting from the control of molecular genetics and genomics.

Content

The course contents are divided in four main parts.

- DNA structure : DNA and chromatin, DNA in flux (recombinations, transpositions, ...) and horizontal gene transfer

- DNA functions : gene expression mechanisms

- Genetic engineering : basic principles in molecular biology, DNA sequencing, recombinant protein producrion and the genetic approaches (mutagenesis and transgenesis)

- Human genetic polymorphism and pharmacogenomics

Table of contents

1. Structure of the genetic information

2. Fonctions of the genetic information

3. Genetic engineering

4. Genetic polymorphism

Prerequisites

Chimie organique [MCHIB107] et Biologie générale [SBIOB151]

Teaching methods

The course is given with powerpoint slides. A copy of the slides is available in PDF format on the webcampus website.

Evaluations

The evaluation is a written exam with multiple choice questions. Questions will not have the same weight for the computing of the final note, but the relative weight of each question is indicated.
