Translation of medieval Latin texts I [LHISB202]

Learning outcomes

- Learn to read and communicate in at least one language other than French. - To develop complementary knowledge to history.

Objectives

At the end of this course, the student should be able to understand and analyse Latin texts composed in the Middle Ages at a relatively simple level of difficulty.

Content

Brief general review of morphology (declensions, conjugations). Brief introduction to the critical use of dictionaries and lexical databases. Learning of a basic vocabulary (about 500 words), with regular queries. Translation of a corpus of texts throughout the year.


Prerequisites

The teaching units from one of the following lists:

  1. Initiation à la langue latine [LCLAB009]
  2. Lecture de textes latins [LCLAB007]

Teaching methods

Reading of texts.

Evaluations

Written exam + tests on the mastery of basic vocabulary.
