Learning outcomes

Understand the evolution of ideas about art and beauty in different periods of Western civilization.

Content

This course introduces theories of art and historical aesthetics through the study of concepts related to Beauty, the conception and practice of Art through the writings of the main philosophers, thinkers and artists. The course also addresses some more specific aesthetic issues.


Teaching methods

The concepts are studied on the basis of the texts of the authors: philosophers, thinkers and artists. Where appropriate, illustrations of works of art are shown to clarify the relationship between the concepts analysed and the artistic production concerned. Specific aesthetic questions are grouped around themes.

Evaluations

Oral examination with preparation on the texts.
