Learning outcomes

• Learn about the technical aspects of materials, ancient manufactured objects and artistic works from prehistoric times to modern times; • Identify the techniques used, by reading the object, and through the prism of the operating chain, from the acquisition of raw materials to finishing; • Identify the material traces of craft activities in an archaeological context; • Develop critical thinking about material culture and the cultural, social, economic or symbolic aspects that can be explored through its study.

Content

The course deals with the technology of manufacturing inorganic objects most often discovered in archaeological contexts as well as the technologies used in the production of artistic works. It is structured by materials and techniques (ceramics, lithic materials, metal, glass, sculpture, painting, engraving, etc.).


Teaching methods

Classroom sessions combining power-point material and the use of teaching aids. Flipped classes. One practical session will also be organised per stream (A-B).
