Learning outcomes

General overview of material culture and artistic production in the ancient Mediterranean world (Greek, Etruscan and Roman cultures) from Neolithic to Late Antiquity.

Content

The course is structured chronologically and is divided in four sections : 1. Neolithic and Aegean Bronze Age; 2. Ancient Greece; 3. The Etruscans; 4. Ancient Rome. Each section starts with a general, historical introduction, followed by the study of material culture and artistic production in different fields: urbanism and architecture, sculpture, metal and jewellery, painting, pottery.


Teaching methods

Lecture course with PowerPoint and syllabus.

Evaluations

Oral exam, consisting of two questions: 1. General, transversal question; 2. Commentary of images seen in class.
