Learning outcomes

General study of Egyptian and Mesopotamian art. Replace monuments in their cultural, chronological and geographical context.

Content

The course is divided into two parts. The first part studies the different aspects of Egyptian/Mesopotamian culture: power, religion and writing. These are related to the artistic production of each culture. The aim is to gain a better understanding of the context of artistic production and the function of objects in their cultural context. The main characteristics of the various artistic expressions (statuary, architecture, relief, painting) of Egyptian art are reviewed. The second part takes a chronological look at the main monuments of Egyptian culture. This enables us to understand the development of art during the different periods of Egyptian history.
