Learning outcomes
-master the chronology of contemporary art history
-be able to place works in their historical and cultural context
-be able to identify the formal characteristics of the works studied, associating them with the currents to which they relate
-identify the material qualities of different creative media.
Objectives
To develop a general and chronological knowledge of contemporary art history, understood as the period covering the 19th, 20th and early 21st centuries, in line with the historical division in force at UNamur.
Content
Starting with an analysis of the works themselves, their plastic characteristics will outline the movements to which they relate. These key works of the contemporary period will be apprehended through their historical and cultural contexts, as well as in their relationship to artistic techniques or (new) technologies.
The question of the distribution of works and their relationship to the public(s) will also be addressed, in order to familiarize students with the worlds of art and encourage them to pursue this introductory course through further study (academic or personal).
