Learning outcomes

This course is an introduction to databases. It addresses the modeling of information systems through the database paradigm. It teach the student to rationally express typical problem situations in an appropriate formalism: data structures as tables, queries as SQL2 statements, semantic information structures as Entity-relationship schemas.

Content

Part 1 - Concepts of relational databases. Elements of SQL language.
Part 2 - Database methodology. Basic Entity-relationship model. Building an Entity-relationship model. Producing a database schema.

Teaching methods

Theoretical lessons and exercises.

Evaluations

3-hour long written exam.

hree aspects are evaluated: theoretical and technical knowledge, ability to combine knowledge from various parts of the course and the capacity to solve practical problems.
