Learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to: • Consult the documentation of a programming language to understand its specificities; • Read and correctly interpret a computer program written in the Pyhon language; • Write simple data manipulation scripts in Python.

Content

The objective of this course is to introduce the student to computer programming. The following concepts will be progressively examined: variables, values, conditional structures, functions, for/while loops, simple data structures. The course and the exercise sessions will use the Python language.


Teaching methods

The course is structured around three types of activities: • Theoretical sessions in which concepts are introduced and illustrated in live coding sessions; • Practical sessions in which these concepts are manipulated directly by the student; • Independent exercises allowing the student to deepen his/her knowledge at his/her own pace.

Evaluations

The assessment consists of a written examination assessing the student's ability to understand programs written in the Pyhon language of various levels of difficulty and to write (in Python) simple data handling scripts.
