Ability to formally capture what guides some behaviors in the labor market.

Objectives

- Develop analytical tools for understanding the behavior of agents in the labor market (micro-economic approach).

- Compare the theories with the facts.

- Understand what is a good / bad employment policy.

Content

The course will address (1) The behavior of workers. How much labour do they offer? (2) The behavior of firms. What are the determinants of the number of workers they choose to employ? (3) Wage formation in general. (4) Some particular cases of wage formation. (5) Job search.

 


Teaching methods

Presentation ex cathedra in class. Reading of the book "Cahuc P. et Zylberberg A., 2015, "Les ennemis de l'emploi - Le chômage, fatalité ou nécessité?", Champs-Flammarion 596."

Evaluations

Closed book oral exam.

The material covered is included in the slides available on Webcampus and in the possible presentations in the form of video clips.

You must also be able to summarize each chapter of the book by Cahuc P. and Zylberberg A., 2015, "Les ennemis de l'emploi - Le chômage: fatalité ou nécessité? Champs-Flammarion, n°596.
