They will also be able to express their opinion about a book or a film. - Training in listening to and reading authentic documents to enable the student to understand the main points of a message expressed in clear, standard language on current affairs and topics of general interest. The course is designed to prepare students for a recognised certificate such as the Goethe Zertifikat.

Objectives

Depending on the distribution of German 1, a distinction will be made between students who have completed Elementary 1 and those who have completed Middle 1. All students will be encouraged to progress to B1 and B1+ respectively, depending on their level at the beginning of the year. Students may transfer from one course to another each year, subject to acceptance by the teachers after examination of the student's file and progress. Students' requests are examined individually by the teachers and the course coordinator of the German programme. Achieving a B1 level which enables the student to present a recognised certificate such as the Goethe-/ÖSD-Zertifikat A1, and the Goethe-Zertifikat A2 or the Goethe-/ÖSD-Zertifikat B1

Content

According to a programme communicated to the course by the teacher and in line with the descriptions of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). For vocabulary and grammar, students have the two first-year textbooks as a reference. The exercises and texts seen in the course will be provided during the year according to the students' programmes and current events and communicated via WebCampus. The sources used are for example the "Deutsche Welle" and German periodicals.

Teaching methods

The courses take place at the rate of one hour per week according to a hybrid system in presence and/or via Teams. The practical organisation of the sessions will be communicated to the students by the teacher. Important: Students will be expected to actively participate in the course and to put into practice what they have learned on a regular basis. Particular attention will be paid to the distribution between the classroom and/or Teams and the credits allocated to the German course for personal work. The respect of deadlines for the submission of personal work is imperative for the validation of tasks. Continuous assessment is organised during the academic year according to practical arrangements to be specified by the teacher in the respective courses.

Evaluations

40% of the overall mark is allocated to continuous assessment and a test organised in December. The modalities will be specified by the teacher in the respective courses. 60% of the overall grade is awarded on the basis of a final exam during the June session based on the material covered during the year and which will assess the four skills: reading and listening comprehension, written and oral expression. Examination in August/September: similar to the June session. Important: Continuous assessment does not lead to an examination during the session. A second session is therefore not possible for this part of the grade. In the second session, the examination is therefore assessed for 100% of the overall mark.

Warning : please note that the success of this teaching unit does not lead to certification.
