Acquis d'apprentissage

The course will explore topics in applied macroeconomics, with emphasis on the intersection of the empirical analysis and the theory. The objective of the course is to develop an understanding of the connection between the economic theory and real-world policy issues, an ability to apply the empirical methods to critically analyze the macro environment surrounding the economic policy decisions.


The course topics will include the use of data in macroeconomics, overview of a variety of empirical methods such as applied time series techniques, VAR analysis, structural macro models used for policy analysis and forecasting. We will select and discuss some important issues in (applied) macroeconomics, integrating case studies and published papers.

Méthodes d'enseignement

The course is taught in English. The slides will be made available. See the website of the course for lecture notes (slides)  and recommended readings.

Students will receive home assignments and will work individually and/or in groups. Students are expected to be able to use an econometric software (Stata) and some sessions will take place in the computing room. During the course, students will also receive an introduction to Matlab and Dynare.

Mode d'évaluation

The grade will be based on the personal (and/or group) work and an exam at the end of the term.
