Learning outcomes

1. To acquire a broad general and interdisciplinary culture by opening up to other disciplines and understanding the links between them and history 3. Training in critical thinking and scientific reasoning 4. Develop specialised knowledge in areas of the historical discipline and understand the issues of the discipline

Objectives

To introduce students to the discipline of criminology, and in particular to the concepts and theories of this discipline. To place the evolution of the criminological discipline in the context of the history of the 19th and 20th centuries and the changes experienced by criminal law during this period. To study the main issues and debates in contemporary criminology.

Content

Study of three concepts (crime, criminal, punishment) through history from the 18th to the 21st century. The passage will be made progressively, from the debates of the past to those of the present, thus showing the permanence of the questions, the diversity of the approaches and the close link with the vision of the social prevailing at the various times concerned.

Lecture combined with commentary on the readings.
